TASK Allocates Up to RM100,000 for the “Trap, Neuter, Release” Community Project to Manage the Stray Dog Population in Langkawi

 

Tabung Amanah Sultan Kedah (TASK) provided a funding allocation of up to RM100,000 to TNR Langkawi, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the humane management of stray dogs in Langkawi.

 

TNR Langkawi (Trap, Neuter, Release Langkawi) is a community-based initiative established in October 2022 through close collaboration with the Langkawi Municipal Council Tourism City (MPLBP). The project aims to manage the stray dog population on the island using the internationally recognised Trap–Neuter–Release (TNR) approach. Since its inception, the programme has successfully sterilised more than 400 stray dogs.

 

The contribution represents not only financial support but also a significant milestone for TNR Langkawi. The funding will strengthen the organisation's capacity to expand its operations, reach more areas in need, and make a lasting impact in reducing the stray dog population across Langkawi.

 

The contribution cheque was graciously presented by His Royal Highness the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Member of the Board of Trustees of Tabung Amanah Sultan Kedah (TASK), to Mohamed Naushad Mohammed Shariff, Secretary of TNR Langkawi.

 

The presentation ceremony was witnessed by Encik Mohamad Subhi bin Abdullah, District Officer of Langkawi; Encik Mohd Hamri bin Abidin, President of the Langkawi Municipal Council Tourism City (MPLBP); and Tuan Haji Azhan bin Abd Hamid, General Manager of TASK.

 

The collaboration between TASK and TNR Langkawi represents an important step towards the shared aspiration of creating a Stray Free Langkawi through responsible, humane, and sustainable population management.

 

TASK hopes that this contribution will serve as a catalyst for expanding and sustaining the initiative in the years ahead. TASK also extends its sincere appreciation to TNR Langkawi for its dedication and commitment to advancing this important community initiative.

 

It is hoped that this support will enable TNR Langkawi to extend its efforts to more areas in need while strengthening the shared vision of a safer, more harmonious, and more compassionate Langkawi for both the community and its animals.
