His Royal Highness Tunku Shazuddin Ariff was born on 27 April 1970 in Alor Setar, Kedah. He is the youngest child and second son of His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin and Her Royal Highness Sultanah Maliha. His Royal Highness is also the grandson of the late Sultan Badlishah and the late Sultanah Asma. He has one elder brother, His Royal Highness the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah.

His Royal Highness received his early education at Sri Petaling Primary School and Bukit Bintang Secondary School before pursuing higher education at KDU University College. He later obtained a degree in Design and Marketing from Kansas Wesleyan University, United States of America.

Upon completing his studies, His Royal Highness worked in Los Angeles before returning to Malaysia. He subsequently served with Johan Design Associates and was involved in major projects for Petronas Formula One (F1) and Malaysia Airlines. He also held positions with Hewlett Packard and the Keppel Group of Singapore. In 2002, His Royal Highness established two design companies, Rethink Sdn. Bhd. and Reka 3 Sdn. Bhd., and currently serves as the Managing Director of Seri Libana Sdn. Bhd.

On 26 November 2022, His Royal Highness married Her Royal Highness Che Puan Nur Julie Ariff (formerly known as Julie Gwee Chai Hong), a Chinese Muslim convert. On the same day, Her Royal Highness Che Puan Nur Julie Ariff was conferred the title of Her Royal Highness Tunku Puan Mahkota of Kedah.

His Royal Highness was conferred the title of Tunku Laksamana of Kedah on 26 November 2017 and was appointed Tunku Mahkota of Kedah on 19 June 2022. He has also been awarded the Darjah Seri Setia Sultan Sallehuddin (SSSK) and the Darjah Setia Diraja Kedah (DSDK).

His Royal Highness enjoys watching films and participating in adventure and outdoor activities.
